| 1978 Parish celebrates 150 Years since beginning in 1828 A special Sesquicentennial parish book was published for this anniversary. Kathy Pheiffer and other historians researched parish archives, national archives, court house records, newspapers, Redemptorist and Precious Blood Order archives to give us an accurate picture of years gone by. Most of the information contained in the above notes have been secured from this Article. Kathy wrote the text of “Our Parish of Yesterday” and provided us with listing of the Diocese and Bishops in the History of our parish. She also lists the pastoral summary for St. Alphonsus from the beginning to 1978, and information of the Daughters and Sons of the parish who have entered the Priesthood and religious life. Paulette Geiger gave us an artist rendition of buildings and maps as they existed in the early days. We are indebted to Kathy and all who worked to save this important faith history for all to observe. Also included in the 1978 parish book is a listing of all parishioners, and photos of most of them. In the section ”Our Parish of Today” we see a worshipping, active, learning, growing parish community of today and tomorrow. A copy of this book is available to be read at the St. John Neumann Prayer center. At the closing of this year of celebration, a stainless steel box filled with memorabilia, photos, predictions, newspapers, and news magazines was sealed behind the engraved marble stone on the south east corner of church, to be opened in 2028. |
